Passion for industry a legacy

Skelton Ivory was established in 1964 by Bob Skelton and Trevor Ivory and sold to Dereck Whitworth in 1979. In 2001 it was purchased by David Allen and Ian Gold and rebranded as Skeltons in April 2007 to coincide with a move from central Hastings to a purpose-built store on its operating apple orchard.

Throughout this time, the philosophy of the business was to keep at the forefront of the horticulture industry in order to provide customers with quality advice, products and services to help them grow better crops, and healthier bottom lines.

The success of this philosophy attracted the interest of Farmlands, the North Island leading rural supplies retailer that was investigating ways to expand into horticulture. In mid 2008, Farmlands purchased Skeltons as a standalone entity. Within three years, under the leadership of Ian Gold as Skeltons General Manager, Farmlands had developed a Skeltons horticulture specialist service in all horticultural regions throughout the North Island.
